Aquaculture or fish farming is becoming more and more visible on the coasts of Iceland. Aquaculture is a way to farm fish and other sea creatures or organisms. High demand for the luxurious Norwegian salmon on offer in your local supermarket means that the production of these farms is increasing. So too are the resulting complications – aquaculture produces a heavy mass of waste that the ocean swallows. The industry is increasingly criticised as it threatens ecosystems. However, it also creates jobs and, it can be argued, contributes to the fight against world hunger. Floating Aquaculture! It Creates Jobs! follows narratives and sociopolitical contexts within the communities where large-scale aquaculture farms are located.
