Eternal Refugee

A woman in movement is an act of resistance. It is a political choice for a woman to move in space as the subject of her decision. I use the character of the Curly Hair Woman as a figure of propaganda in my work to represent my ancestors and mothers. She is also the resistant minority that continues to migrate bravely, to walk proudly, to take to the streets loudly, to show her lively body to a system that wants it weakened.

Sometimes, I fantasize about the idea of the Curly Hair Woman running in the oppressor’s mind, forcing them to relate to the discomfort of the eternal refugee.

Thanks to Hans Muller, Kees Aafjes and Bart Schalenkamp for their precious help.
