Refuge – fleeing, flowing, leaking

22, 23, 24, 25 March 2023

Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

Rietveld Uncut is an annual exhibition and performance programme from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Its collaboration with Studium Generale Rietveld Academie culminates in a simultaneous conference week and exhibition in which ‘the making and the thinking’ come together in Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.

This edition considers the phenomenon of refuge – not only as a concrete physical construction in a violent or toxic reality, but also as a potential affective space or caring body. It looks at how restrictive systems (ideologies, states, institutions, academies and machines) flow and leak unpredictably, allowing lines of flight to arise. Students of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie have developed projects relating to this theoretical framework.

On Friday Night 24 March, Rietveld Uncut will be activated with a special programme of performances and interventions.
