Rietveld Uncut

TECHNODIVERSITY — BEYOND DATAFICATION AND DIGITAL COLONIALISM

2024

Rietveld UNCUTis an annual exhibition and performance programme of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Its collaboration with STUDIUM GENERALE Rietveld Academie culminates in a simultaneous conference week and exhibition where ‘the making and the thinking’ come together.

In response to STUDIUM GENERALE’s theme, TECHNODIVERSITY— BEYOND DATAFICATION AND DIGITAL COLONIALISM, Rietveld students have developed new work for Rietveld UNCUT.

Technodiversity recognises that technologies come from different places and perspectives – they’re shaped by different knowledge systems, political beliefs, economic factors, and cultural practices. We’re challenging the idea that our data should be mined for profit. We want to rethink our relationship with data, moving away from the idea that it’s just a commodity to be exploited. By exploring the connections between our bodies, identities, digital tools, artistic expression, and activism, we’re imagining a new kind of relationship with data – one that is grounded in our lived experiences and has the potential to challenge the status quo.

On Friday March 22 2024 from 18:30 to 21:30, Rietveld UNCUT will be activated with a special programme of performances and interventions.
