Rietveld Uncut 2025

RADICAL ACCESSIBILITY – Crip pedagogies, Crip theory, Crip practice

19 – 23 March 2025

Rietveld Uncut is an annual exhibition and performance programme of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Its collaboration with Studium Generale Rietveld Academie culminates in a simultaneous conference week and exhibition where ‘the making and the thinking’ come together. In response to Studium Generale’s theme, RADICAL ACCESSIBILITY -Crip pedagogies, Crip theory, Crip practice, Rietveld students have developed new work for Rietveld Uncut from various personal and collective perspectives.

Studium Generale & Rietveld Uncut 2025 explore accessibility and disability justice in art and culture through a ‘Crip’ perspective, emphasising interdependency and solidarity. Once a negative term, Crip has been reclaimed as empowering, challenging norms and highlighting disability’s intersections with gender, race, class and more. Despite progress, barriers persist in daily life and education, from inaccessible spaces to marginalising materials. By collaborating with Crip artists, activists and thinkers, we aim to rethink the academy and artistic practices. How can accessibility become a fundamental part of learning and creating, rather than an afterthought?
